SN: Could you share your transition from being a professional sports person to becoming an entrepreneur?
JC: It seems like sports has always been a significant part of my life, with activities like running serving as an outlet after a long day or as a way to start my mornings with a positive mindset. Around eight years ago, I discovered the world of bodyweight training, and since then, I've become addicted, incorporating 5 to 6 sessions per week into my routine.
My professional journey has been rather unconventional, as I initially worked in design and trend agencies, and later found myself in start-ups as a business developer. In 2018, I took a leap and launched the first e-shop in France specializing in activewear brands like Varley or PE Nation. While this entrepreneurial experience went relatively well, I believe the timing may not have been ideal.
Subsequently, I spent three years working as a customer manager in a start-up, but unfortunately, it ended in 2021 with what some refer to as a "burn-out." The toxic work environment led me to experience emotional distress, crying before going to work, and facing challenges with a boss who prioritized profit over customer care. It became clear that I no longer aligned with the company's values, prompting me to break free from this exhausting cycle.
During the lockdowns, I found it difficult to come across high-quality fitness accessories that matched my preferences. This inspired me to take matters into my own hands and create my own line of fitness products. In March 2022, I launched athlē, a brand that aims to "pay homage to sport" by infusing a glamorous and feminine touch into ankle weights, resistance bands, and other fitness accessories.
SN: You are by excellence a wellbeing entrepreneur, the fitness is in your blood. What are your recommendations for healthy weight loss programs and exercise
JC: Indeed, fitness is undeniably a passion and can truly be considered a way of life. Engaging in physical activity stimulates the release of dopamine, often referred to as the "happiness hormone." When we experience this happiness, we naturally strive to maintain it by adopting healthy eating habits, expressing gratitude for the positive aspects of our lives, and more.
My advice is to discover your own personal combination of sports or activities that keep you motivated. It could be a mix of running, strength training, and Pilates, for instance. However, it's crucial to find your unique balance. Each of our bodies possesses a remarkable ability to adapt, so it's essential to develop a deep understanding of your own body.
I don't believe in weight loss programs that neglect the importance of physical activity and body awareness. For example, if you feel like indulging in fries with a burger at a restaurant one evening, go for it! Enjoy the experience. The next day, your body will naturally crave a sweaty workout session, along with nourishing plant-based meals and ample hydration.
This is my philosophy: avoid frustration, embrace eating and drinking what brings you joy and happiness (while remaining conscious of your choices), and counterbalance with activities like Pilates, running, or even a leisurely walk.
SN: You have a very beautiful less is more collection, what is your design philosophy when you create your products
JC: Thank you! Your kind words resonate deeply with me because the concept behind athlē ankle and wrist weights was to create something that is simultaneously simple, elegant, and functional. I drew inspiration from the aesthetic of aerobic workouts and the iconic style of Jane Fonda, which exudes a glamorous and shiny appeal reminiscent of the beloved 80s era.
During the design process, I vividly recall examining my mother's old weights. While they were made of PU leather like mine, they were predominantly red and possessed a rather masculine vibe. That's when the idea struck me: why not infuse a more feminine essence into these fitness accessories? I aimed to create a "sporty jewel" that incorporates touches of gold and silver, elevating the overall look.
Furthermore, my travels have served as a significant wellspring of inspiration. One city that has particularly captivated my heart is Sevilla, the stunning Andalusian gem that I frequently visit. Its vibrant blue hues, reminiscent of the tones found throughout the city and in The Real Alcazar, have influenced the upcoming weights in my collection.
By merging elements from iconic aesthetics and meaningful destinations, athlē ankle and wrist weights aim to bring together style, function, and inspiration to enhance your fitness journey.
SN: What is your favorite Depuravita recipe
JC: I'm absolutely smitten with a recipe I devised using the Magic Potion! It involves combining 3-4 tablespoons of coconut yogurt, a generous handful of raspberries, a sliced banana, a delightful drizzle of Maple syrup, and a sprinkling of a teaspoon of the enchanting Magic Potion. The result is a scrumptious, nutritious breakfast that will leave you feeling satisfied and energized!
